Avex® – the original and still the best
WELWYN GARDEN CITY (UK) – 10 December 2008 - With riveting technology changing and new products launched everyday it is perhaps surprising that Avex® rivets, one of Avdel’s oldest brands still sells as well today as it did in the 1960s. From January 2008 to October 2008 almost 364 million Avex® rivets were sold.

The Avex® rivet is a multigrip breakstem fastener with a long and reliable track record in a wide variety of applications. Previous applications have included boilers, garage doors and car chassis’s. Jon Brewer, Principal Engineer at Avdel suggests the popularity of the Avex® rivet is due to “the versatility of the fastener. Avex® rivets have a wide grip range which allows them to be used in applications of varying thickness and enable our customers to reduce the inventory of fasteners helping to prevent mistakes.”
Avex® rivets are also able to compensate for holes which are irregular, misaligned, oversized or slotted. The Avex® rivet prevents sheet movement when the holes are non standard. They feature good hole fill which creates strong vibration resistant joints, allowing the fastener to be used in tough applications including washing machines. The stem is retained within the fastener to prevent it from causing damage or rattling.
The Avex® rivet is a bulbing fastener which produces a large blind side bearing area; this spreads the clamp over a wider surface area making the Avex® rivet excellent for use on thin sheet material.
The Avex® rivet is constructed from Aluminium Alloy giving the fastener excellent corrosion resistance. The stem can be manufactured from either steel or stainless steel making the Avex® rivet ideal for inside and outside applications.
Like most Avdel® rivets the Avex® rivet can be made with various head forms to suit the application, and is available in sizes from 1/8” (3.2.mm) to ¼” (6.4mm).

Thirty years after the Avex® rivet was first manufactured, a new product was introduced as an extension to the range. Following a similar design but produced in high strength steel and stainless steel, the Stavex® rivet was created to cope with modern demands and materials. The Stavex® fastener features all the benefits of the Avex® fastener but with a higher shear and tensile strength. The Stavex® rivet has been used in applications from snowmobiles to airbags and in 2008 over 119 million Stavex® rivets were sold throughout the world.
